Like in 2023 a number of employees of IWSwater and NaVer travelled to Surinam to work together with us to ensure clean and safe drinking water.
The water from the well that was drilled in 2023 in Welbedacht, Commewijne district, has been found to contain a high level of iron, causing the water to show iron sediment. After extensive testing it is judged to be safe.
To lower the iron level a de-ironizer installation was sent to Surinam in our latest sea container,
along with other items for this project such as filter material etc. After the machine was installed, tests were carried out and it worked perfectly. The water has become almost transparant.
The next day the team sets off to the other location, Dankbaarkondre, Brokopondo district.
The outpatient clinic and two apartments for medical staff are situated here. The soil here is more rocky which is the reason why drilling a well in 2023 did not succeed. They did manage to do so now.
The water tastes good. A water sample will be taken back to the Netherlands for analysis. Depending on the result a purifying process will be provided so as to deliver the cleanest water to the outpatient clinic.
Last year, a number of local people were trained during the project. The trainees are participating in this process to refresh and supplement their knowledge so that they can carry out this work independently from now on.
