30.09.2010 NATSJ-home: donation by HEM Suriname NV
On Monday morning 13 September 2010 the caretakers of the NATSJ home, Ingrid and Marc, were contacted by a friendly lady representing HEM Suriname NV.
What is HEM Suriname NV, you might ask. HEM is a subsidiary of the Dutch holding Hollandsche Export Maatschappij B.V. This family company dates back from 1898 when it was trading with the East (Dutch East Indies) and West (Surinam and the Antilles). Led by Wilfred Spangenthal, who represented the third generation working at the company, it grew into one of the largest importers/distributors of consumer articles in Surinam.
The friendly lady on the phone brought the welcome news that HEM Suriname NV would donate 50 cans of beans to the NATSJ home.
Since 50 cans of beans is a huge amount of food, we decided to give half to another boarding house, Kinderhuis Johanna (the Johanna children's home which was previously known as Huize Bethel) in Domburg. The caretakers of this children's home, Jane and Iwan Ritveld, were tremendously grateful. It enabled us to show what our work is truly about: living together means sharing!
On behalf of the NATSJ home we would like to extend our immense gratitude to HEM Suriname NV!
