22.06.2010 The result of the Krutu area project
The month is May of 2009. After having found a nice piece of land and having made various plans for building a new church in Paramaribo the idea of building a krutu (pronounce krootoo) in the church took shape. Krutu in the Surinam language means meeting or gathering.
On May the 15th. the building is being outlined and the first spade enters the ground. Only a few days later the first foundations of the columns of the krutu area are put into place.
The choice was made to incorporate the krutu area into the church building. By doing so we save time and ultimately money.
The building works progress swiftly and surprises everyone. In the month of August one can already see all the spaces taking shape. We are now all confident that this will become a beautiful church and krutu area.
In the months of September and October the building works still continue and at the end of November 2009 District-Apostle Th. De Bruijn arrives to perform the official church opening.
Unfortunately the krutu area is not quite finished at that time. The ceiling still needs to be put into place. After the opening of the church the building contractor still goes firmly ahead with his work. The building will be finished just in time for Christmas and the community will be able to celebrate Christmas in their new church hall. The church building houses a kitchen, storage facilities, two toilet areas and a special store room for all the goods Stichting Corantijn Holland sends to the Republic of Surinam. The church hall has a surface of 120 m2.
The New Apostolic Church of Paramaribo would very much like to extend our gratitude to Stichting Corantijn for the support they have given us in the realization of our krutu area.
Recently a clothes sale and festive activities like a Holy Baptism, Holy Seal and confirmation service have already taken place. We are positive that the krutu area will be used frequently in the future.
