05.04.2010 Children’s clothing for Suriname

Once, an elderly lady joined a course taught by our sister Ruward. After a few lessons they began talking about the sewing course this lady was taking.

A sewing course is fun, but what does it bring? The answer is children’s cloths, which can be given to children in poor countries. This brought the conversation around to Surinam and its many children in need of clothing.

From that time, Mrs. Jenny Stam who doesn’t belong to our church and is a good 82 years old has been making children’s clothing from old fabrics for Stichting Corantijn.

Mrs. Jenny Stam is already putting in a lot of hard work but she would like to do more. She asks for pieces of cloth, doll carts, toy beds and cribs to cover with new ‘skins’. She would also enjoy making dolls clothing, but has no dolls of her own.

If you happen to have dolls you can spare, Mrs. Jenny Stam would love to sew new dresses for them. And for these dresses she requests buttons, particularly small ones.

Working for a good cause keeps her busy and keeps her young.

If you would like to help Mrs. Stam, please contact her at 038-4606148.
