01.03.2010 The Tabor school receives school furniture!
The Tabor school pupils had their eyes wide open when a very big truck with a 40 ft container pulled up right in front of their school. This was a sight they had never seen before in the deprived area of “Pont Buiten”, city of Paramaribo.
For forty years not a lot was done to the Tabor School but now it will be transformed into an exemplary school within three years. Up until now Rob Jansen initiated the decoration of the classrooms of the senior pupils. Next to do is the unloading of the container with school furniture donated by primary School De Dolfijn in Uithoorn, The Netherlands. All of the efforts contribute positively to the pupils’ attitude. They now like to go to school and it gives the teachers the strength again to put more effort into “their” school
The unloading of the container is even being covered by the Surinam News for Youths. The senior pupils lend a hand and receive instructions where to put it all. The furniture is placed in their newly decorated classrooms. They are extremely happy with this particular furniture because it is of a quality that is very well equipped to withstand the moist Surinam climate for many years to come! In comparison it makes a great difference to see the old furniture that is now put outside! And there is still the junior classes to do. When the container is emptied everyone is tired but happy and grateful for all the donations. All the furniture, computers, curtains, cupboards even a toolkit with content etc. Amongst the students who helped carrying out this work a lottery is being held. They can obtain three trouser jeans which makes them really excited.
Rob returns home in the afternoon. He is tired but it was all very fulfilling. With enthusiasm he rings his contacts in the Netherlands to tell them how wonderful it all went.
