22.01.2009 Result School Materials Collection

First off, we would like to thank everyone for their donations to the School Materials Collection!

Your enthusiasm is inspiring!

In Benschop we almost drowned in a flood of pens, note books, pencils, erasers, rulers, compasses, etc., etc. Our volunteers gave it their all and collected, sorted and packaged everything in cardboard boxes. We couldn't believe our eyes when we entered our storage space and saw 102 packed boxes and 100 full sports bags and backpacks. FANTASTIC!

We asked those people who are unable to go out and buy materials themselves to support as with monetary gifts. This resulted in an impressive EUR 735,54 on our account for school materials.

The 102 boxes and 100 bags were packed into a container on Thursday 2 October 2008 and then shipped to Surinam. On Children's Day, which is what the Dutch 'Sinterklaas' celebration is called in Surinam, we gave 1,200 kids in poor neighbourhoods a present with school materials. It was a big success!

We used your financial donations to buy school materials from a company that supported us by providing part of the materials for free. We were able to buy the following items: 1000 Bruynzeel pencils 1000 Bruynzeel ballpoints 4000 note books 360 erasers

Thank you for supporting Stichting Corantijn in such a great way! Thanks to your contributions many kids are able study with proper school materials.

We keep counting on you in the coming months to make sure we can do this fantastic work together.
